ASCEND Elevator Car frame

The elevator car frame is a critical component responsible for securing and supporting the elevator car; it bears the weight of the car itself as well as the weight of the passengers or cargo being transported. The following is a detailed overview of this component:

Functions and Requirements

  • Load-Bearing Function: The car’s total load (comprising its own weight and the payload) is transmitted from the car frame to the traction ropes; thus, the frame serves as the pivotal structural link connecting the elevator car to the traction system.
  • Safety Assurance: The car frame is required to possess exceptional rigidity and strength. This ensures that, in the event of operational anomalies—such as overspeeding, the activation of safety gears, or a free-fall impact with the buffer—the frame can withstand the resulting reaction forces without sustaining deformation or structural damage.

Structural Components

  • Upper Beam:Located at the top of the car frame, this component is typically fabricated from structural steel sections or steel plates. The ends of the upper beam feature mounting points for the car guide shoes and safety gears, while the central section houses a mounting plate for the car-top sheave or rope-hitch assembly; it also accommodates the operating rods for the safety gears and associated electrical switches.
  •  Lower Beam: Situated at the bottom of the car frame, this component is likewise constructed from structural steel sections or steel plates. The ends of the lower beam also feature mounting points for guide shoes and safety gears; it serves to support the car floor and plays a stabilizing role during elevator operation.
  • Vertical Beams: Also known as side columns, these are the vertical members connecting the upper and lower beams; they are typically selected from structural steel sections or steel plates that have been press-formed to meet specific requirements. The vertical beams feature brackets for mounting the car wall panels, as well as routing provisions for components such as the safety gear operating rods.
  • Tie Bars:These members are utilized to enhance the stability of the car frame; they typically connect the upper beam, lower beam, and vertical beams, thereby consolidating the car frame into a single, rigid structural unit.

Common Configurations

  • Opposing-Door Type:Suitable for elevators featuring car doors on a single side or on two opposing sides. This configuration offers superior load-bearing characteristics and represents one of the most common structural forms for elevator car frames.
  • Adjacent-Door Type: Employed in elevator cars where doors are situated on two adjacent sides; however, the load-bearing conditions associated with this configuration are relatively less favorable.

Material Selection

  • Steel: Materials such as high-strength square tubing are frequently utilized. Characterized by their high tensile strength and excellent rigidity, these materials are capable of withstanding substantial loads and are commonly employed in the construction of traditional elevator car frames. ·
  • Stainless Steel: Possessing advantages such as corrosion resistance, ease of cleaning, and aesthetic appeal, it is frequently utilized in elevators where high standards for aesthetics and hygiene are required—such as those found in residential buildings and hotels.
  • Aluminum Alloy: Materials such as the 6-series aerospace-grade aluminum alloy offer benefits including lightweight construction combined with high strength, corrosion resistance, and rust prevention. This material serves to reduce the car’s dead weight, thereby lessening the load on the guide rails and drive system, while simultaneously enhancing the overall impact resistance of the unit.
